DISTURBING THE PEACE
Premiered: October 6, 2009 Shreveport Municipal Auditorium, Shreveport, La. Historians suggest that Shreveport Municipal Auditorium is where the King of Rock 'n' Roll got his start and the phrase "Elvis has left the building" was coined. Judging by all the paranormal activity that people have reported witnessing, maybe he never really left — or maybe it's the spirits of the countless performers who took the stage during the Louisiana Hayride. Myrtles Plantation, St. Francisville, La. A site of suffering and horror, the Myrtles Plantation harkens back to the dark days of slavery. Could it be haunted by the ghosts of Confederate soldiers from the Civil War or the tortured soul of a former slave named Chloe? TOMBSTONE Premiered: October 13, 2009 Birdcage Theater, Tombstone, Ariz. Back in the day it served as a brothel, a gambling hall and a saloon. Today this tourist attraction serves a different kind of client, but according to the current shop manager, a spirit named "Jake" may be haunting the building. Boot Hill Cemetery, Tombstone, Ariz. Boot Hill served as the city cemetery back in the 1880s, and many victims of violence, including those killed during the O.K. Corral shooting, are buried here. It is little wonder, then, that so many visitors have reported seeing shadow people — physical manifestations of the dead who may have died under conditions of extreme physical or emotional trauma. SMELL OF FEAR Premiered: October 20, 2009 Mortuary, New Orleans, La. This 130-year-old mortuary and former home in New Orleans has a chilling past and sits next-door to a centuries-old cemetery. A now-deceased former funeral home director has been "seen" in the basement around the former crematory and embalming room, while ghost children have been known to play tricks throughout the home. Or could the building be haunted by a former vagrant who passed away from a drug overdose on the second floor? Liar's Club, Chicago, Ill. Today, this establishment is a haunted cheap-drinks and good-times dive bar called the Liar's Club. In the past, it was the scene of grizzly murders, including two with an axe, and another involving a broken Coca Cola bottle. Patrons and residents have reported seeing full-body apparitions of a woman who was hacked to death by her husband and shadows in the basement. MURKY WATER Premiered: Nov. 3, 2009 The Metro Club, Chicago, Ill. Originally built in 1927, this bar and music venue has gone through many identities. Throughout its rich history, it has been known at different times as the Old Lakeview Theater, Stages Music Hall, Northside Auditorium Building and Cabaret Metro. Tragically, in 1945, a 2-year-old child was crushed in the Northside Auditorium's elevator. To this day, visitors to the Metro Club report feeling the presence of ghosts and seeing mysterious blue lights, moving objects, and the apparition of a woman and child. Nottoway Plantation, White Castle, La. The Deep South may seem frozen in time, but the ghostly residents of Nottoway Plantation are just as active today as when they were alive. The Randolph family, long since deceased, seems to have held on to this stately home — a mysterious girl has been seen in the window, a child's footprints have appeared in the fresh varnish and an angry presence has been felt in a basement room. UNDER THE SKIN Premiered: Oct. 27, 2009 Old Town Tatu, Chicago, Ill. In the 1890s, this building served as a funeral parlor where hundreds of bodies were cremated in the basement. Since then, it has become a tattoo parlor. In 2006, the former owner of Old Town Tatu, Ritchie "Tapeworm" Herrerra, died in the apartment attached to the studio. He left his mark, literally and figuratively, on almost everyone who passed through. It seems clear that Ritchie is probably haunting the place, but given the building's history, who knows what else is going on. Miss Molly's, Fort Worth, Texas This former brothel now serves tourists as a quaint bed-and-breakfast. Beneath the charm of Miss Molly's, there may lie terror. Many guests have reported seeing apparitions and hearing voices. Women in particular refuse to take a bath in one of the rooms because of widespread reports of being watched there by some kind of supernatural presence. IF WALLS COULD TALK Premiered: Dec. 29, 2009 Lemp Mansion, St. Louis, Mo. The Lemp Mansion is believed to be one of the most haunted homes in America. Visitors have told stories of apparitions, strange sounds, vanishing tools and a feeling of being watched. Are the spirits of the Lemp family, who were cursed with depression and death, haunting the family home? McPike Mansion, St. Alton, Ill. Built in 1869, the house was owned by Henry McPike. A horticulturist, McPike perfected the McPike grape on his 15 acres of land and produced some award-winning wines. Since then, the mansion has been extensively damaged by weather, time and vandals. The current owners claim to feel the presence of entities, smell lilac and hear voices. Could it be the McPike family, their servants or other former residents? SHADOWMAN Premiered: Nov. 24, 2009 Guerra DeBerry & Coody Building, San Antonio, Texas There are countless accounts of paranormal activity at the 140-year-old GDC building, which at various points in its history was a brothel and then hotel. Current employees have heard footsteps, a woman's laughter, children crying and even a bowling ball being rolled down the hallway. There have also been sightings of an apparition of a male in a white shirt. They have witnessed objects being moved, and electronics being turned on and off. The old inn-keeper may even have been killed by Pancho Villa's gang. Everyone at the office agrees that the spirits act out when someone remarks that they don't believe in ghosts, so if employees don't believe, they now keep it to themselves. Volo Country Village, Chicago, Ill. A 30-acre antique theme park, Volo Country Village is full of history — plus the two graveyards around its perimeter make for some spooky happenings. Many people have reported witnessing poltergeist activity, such as moving objects. There have also been reports of paranormal shadow people, apparitions of children playing, the smell of tobacco, male voices and electrical issues. JOHN WILKES BOOTH Premiered: Nov. 10, 2009 Granbury Opera House, Granbury, Texas This grand theater was formerly a saloon, saddle shop and brothel. One of the most notable moments in the building's history involves its possible connection to the Lincoln assassination: John Wilkes Booth may have worked at the Grandbury Opera House under the assumed name of "John St. Helen" in the 1870s and is believed by many to still be haunting the premises. Local stories have it that St. Helen was a big fan of the opera house and may have performed there on several occasions. Several witnesses claim to have seen an apparition of a stately figure in black wearing large black boots and a waistcoat to match. Garfield Furniture, Granbury, Texas In 1903, the Garfield Furniture store was a boardinghouse. According to legend, a guest there confessed to being John Wilkes Booth and then committed suicide by poisoning. Today claims of doors mysteriously slamming, furniture moving on its own and an eerie presence inhabiting the premises plague the store. THEY'RE WATCHING YOU Premiered: Nov. 17, 2009 Catfish Plantation, Waxahachie, Texas The Catfish Plantation in Waxahachie promises its patrons a delicious serving of soul food and ... spirits. Built in the late 1800s, the restaurant was originally a house located on one of the many flourishing cotton plantations in the area. Several years later, the cotton industry moved on and the house was eventually abandoned. But not everyone may have left. Reports of a spirit named Caroline, who lived and died at the Catfish Plantation, still flourish. Chefs claim that Caroline turns the kitchen burners on and off, makes the fry baskets levitate, and moves silverware around the dining room. Hotel Lawrence, Dallas, Texas Hotel Lawrence is said to have a long history of suicides, murders and violence, which may relate to its alleged paranormal activity. But with so many possible spirits, how will the Ghost Lab team identify who has been haunting room 807? James Fannin and 300 Texian soldiers were slaughtered during the Texas Revolution. The Ghost Lab team learns from psychologist Dr. Jon Klimo that even deceased soldiers and veterans can experience post-traumatic stress disorder, which would explain the paranormal activity in the area.
