In the final mass-processing step, the pay dirt goes through another round of separation in the Wash Pit. Here a pair of jigs complete the mechanical sorting by extracting the heavier sand-sized fraction for further manual processing. This end product now consists almost exclusively of black sand with variable amounts of fine gold that is loaded into buckets and driven up to the processing tent.
