Explorer, author and wilderness educator Josh Bernstein has infused the television documentary format with a unique sense of passion, curiosity and adventure. In the past few years, Bernstein has traveled over 500,000 miles by train, plane, bus, bike and camel to over 40 countries, exploring the tombs of Egypt, the ice floes of the Arctic and the jungles of the Amazon in pursuit of knowledge and discovery.
In addition to his role as host and executive producer for Discovery Channel, Bernstein is also the president and CEO of BOSS, the Boulder Outdoor Survival School, the oldest and largest wilderness survival school in the world. Born and raised in New York City and educated at Cornell University, Bernstein double-majored in anthropology and psychology. After graduating college, he spent a year in a postgraduate program in Jerusalem studying, among other things, mysticism and ancient texts.
Before joining Discovery Channel, Bernstein hosted the adventure-archaeology series Digging for the Truth on History Channel for three hit seasons. He is a fellow of the Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society and a patron of the American Museum of Natural History. Bernstein sits on the Global Heritage Fund’s board of directors and Discovery's Planet Green channel’s board of advisers.
Bernstein is a regular guest on the morning and evening talk shows, has been featured in the Style section of The New York Times and the premiere issue of Men's Vogue magazine, and was named one of People magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" in 2007.
When not filming, he splits his time between a yurt in Southern Utah and an apartment in New York City. More information can be found at www.joshbernstein.com and www.boss-inc.com.
