ACP, CO-HOST![]() In addition to hosting TV shows such as Ultimate Car Build-Off, Andrew "ACP" Comrie-Picard is a top race-car driver, precision driver, automotive and comedy writer. ACP grew up on a farm in Canada where he learned to work on, drive and race anything with an engine, from dirt bikes to semitrucks. Professional race-car driving came naturally, and he is now a top-ranked rally driver, drifter and off-road racer. He has competed four times at the X Games and is the 2009 North American Rally champion. But unusual for an automotive expert, ACP has five university degrees, including a master's in political economy from Oxford University and MBA and law degrees from McGill University. Much of his academic work was about rationality paradoxes and human behavior, which he says helps him race. ACP was also a competitive rower at both Oxford and McGill and ran the wine society at Oxford. He began university on a choral scholarship and trained as a baritone at the Royal Conservatory of Music. In addition, ACP acted throughout his university years, including in Chekov and Shakespeare at Oxford. Although ACP began his professional career as a Big Apple entertainment lawyer, he soon abandoned the tried-and-true career track to race full time. His racing, combined with his mechanical skills and acting experience, led to his being cast to host several car race series and car shows in Canada, as well as a special on SpeedTV. He went on to host War of the Wheels, a reality show on car building, on Global TV in Canada. A cerebral guy with a taste for the arts, ACP can build cars and drive them really fast over the most difficult terrain. The harder the driving, the more he likes it: Nothing gets him fired up more than a road called "impassable." He has driven a VW van through Africa in the hottest month of the year, a single-cylinder Enfield motorcycle through the Himalayas and a vintage Jaguar through Scandinavia in one of the biggest winter blizzards on record. His ability to fix vehicles with ingenuity and paper clips has meant that he has almost never been stranded, except by running out of gas on the interstate. He divides his time between Toronto and Los Angeles, where he runs ACP Racing, a race-car preparation shop. When ACP is not racing, he fills his time with precision and stunt driving for television and film. |
