Some pests are just that -- little annoyances you wish would quit hanging around your home. But other vermin mean serious trouble. If you spot the telltale signs of one of the less-than-friendly bugs on this list, you'll probably want to call in some professionals, stat.

After all, getting close enough to get a good look at the little dude scampering around your cabinet isn’t exactly something people love to do.

Exterminators and extension agents alike may be able to help you out with this one: Just catch some samples, dead or alive, and bring them in. Once the pros have identified your particular pest, you'll be able to get a better idea of what steps you need to take to get them out of your home.

5. GNAW MARKS:

Rodents can worm their way in through the tiniest of openings; a hole the size of a quarter does the trick for most rats, and mice only need a dime-sized portal to gain access to your abode. Once inside, their agenda is pretty simple: eat, poop and make babies. Luckily, this makes spotting the signs of a rodent invasion fairly easy. If you're surrounded by gnawed-up wood, wires, plastic or pretty much anything else that shows signs of some dedicated chomping, it could be a rodent problem. If you hear the pitter patter of tiny feet, especially during off-hours (daytime for rats and nighttime for mice), chances are pretty decent you've got a lot more company than you know about. This is also true if you discover droppings in a variety of sizes -- that can mean you have generations of gross little guests.
