1. CALL IN A PROFESSIONAL:

Some jobs are just too hard to handle on your own, so for the really brutal bug problems, don't be afraid to pick up the phone and dial a professional. The health risks -- and general nastiness -- of a vermin infestation make getting the situation fixed too important to let it linger on your to-do list if you're not feeling up to the task.

Exterminators are usually able to get right to the root of the problem, but before you let them take a crack at it, check out their credentials. Ask them questions like how long they've been in business and what kind of guarantees they offer, what kinds of chemicals and treatments they perform, and how long the process will take. Once everyone's on the same page, you can step back and let them handle the dirty work.
